Ingredient Information: Magnesium Stearate is a magnesium salt of stearic acid, produced by reacting magnesium chloride or sulfate with sodium stearate, derived from vegetable oils like palm or soybean oil, or occasionally animal fats. Composed of carbon, hydrogen, magnesium, and oxygen, it is a hydrophobic compound with low water solubility (<0.1 g/100 mL at 20°C) and a melting point of 88-90°C. It is processed into a fine, stable powder, widely used as a lubricant in pharmaceutical and food applications.

Uses: Widely used in pharmaceuticals as a lubricant in tablet and capsule manufacturing, reducing friction during compression at 0.5-2% w/w, improving flowability and preventing sticking, with over 100,000 tons consumed annually. It is also employed in food as an anti-caking agent and emulsifier (E470b in the EU) in products like powdered spices and confectionery, and in cosmetics as a texturizer in powders and creams. Additionally, it finds application in research for studying excipient interactions and in plastics as a mold release agent.
