Raw materials have been used for centuries to breathe new life into products and give them new uses. Consumer preferences in the new era are shifting from traditionally applied ingredients to ingredients that provide multiple functions, and the trend of "preventive health care" is gaining more and more attention.

Under this market trend, Omega-3 has opened up its own unique space in the global functional ingredients, successfully entered the health field, and is widely used in food and beverages, dietary supplements, infant formula, pharmaceuticals, animal Feed etc.

As can be seen from the chart below, North America and Europe are the regions with the largest share of the Omega-3 market in 2021.

Global Omega-3 Ingredients Market and Application Analysis

When it comes to Omega-3, it is mainly derived from fish oil, seaweed oil and other animal and vegetable oils. It is a group of polyunsaturated fatty acids, mainly including alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), stearin acid (SDA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

It has positive effects on cardiovascular disease, visual and neurodevelopment, improved cognitive function, and maternal and child health.

Omega-3 derivatives, primarily DHA, have firmly established themselves as “brain nourishing” ingredients in infant formula, and this trend is estimated to reach new heights in 2019 and beyond.

Concentrated fish oil is a great source of Omega-3 supplements. Looking at the global market, in addition to Europe and the United States, as international companies and domestic companies develop China and other Asia-Pacific markets, it is predicted that the Asia-Pacific region will become the leader of the global market in the next few years.
